Jefferson High School is a comprehensive urban public high school of 2113 students grades 9 - 12. There are 155 Certified Staff members. Lafayette Jeff is on a semester calendar of 180 total days. Classes meet on a rotating block schedule of Red and Black days with all 92-minute classes.
Community
Greater Lafayette is made up of Lafayette and West Lafayette separated only by the Wabash River. The population of West Lafayette is 44,595 and the home of Purdue University which has 41,573 students. Lafayette has a population of 70,783 and is the home of 300 manufacturing firms, including such fields as robotics, biotechnology, food processing, microelectronics, instrumentation and office/clerical industries. Lafayette is ideally located 61 miles northwest of Indianapolis and 125 miles southeast of Chicago.

SMART Goals
- Increase SAT (GQE) scores of SPED, ELL and minority students by 3% for each subgroup, annually.
- Increase the graduation rate, overall, by 2%, annually.
- Staff evaluation scores on indicators within in the Teacher Effectiveness Rubric focused on checks for understanding (2.4) will improve from a score of 3.18 to 3.25.
- Reduce the number of student discipline referrals in the area of “out of assigned area” by 10%.
- Ensure 100% of all staff and students are trained in ALICE response protocol.
- Reduce overall truancies by 2%.

SMART Goal 1 Strategies
- 100% of teachers in English, math, science and social studies areas will receive adequate training on how to read and interpret PSAT9, PSAT and SAT scores for use with data analysis.
- Math and English department members will use PSAT9, PSAT and SAT data to drive curriculum development and the establishment of common formative assessments.
- Science and social studies departments will integrate SAT reading questions into their curriculum from the SAT practice question banks.
- Math, English, science and social studies departments will integrate test preparation strategies into curriculum.
- SPED staff will have designated contractual time for to meet with students on their case load, one on one.
- Concerted effort to hire more properly licensed ELL staff.
- SIOP training for 10-15 staff members annually during the summer.
- Staff wide PD by SIOP trained staff members.
- Professional development with staff specific to culturally responsive practices.
- Continuation of free tutoring during and outside of normal school hours.

- Educating students on the benefits of a Core 40, Academic Honors Diploma and Technical Honors Diploma vs a general diploma.
- Extension of credit recovery opportunities for students in core subject areas.
- Sharing of monthly data with staff and students related to passing grades and % of students that are on track to graduate.
- Referrals to Oakland Academy for seniors needing more supports towards graduation requirements.
- Encourage all students to get involved in one or more extra-curricular activities.
- Monthly review by admin and guidance of class cohorts and graduation rate.
- Through Advisory lessons, a focus on student organization and the introduction of digital and/or physical planners.

- Staff will be provided with a list of resources related to checks for understanding.
- Annual PD, led by JHS certified staff, on strategies related to effective checks for understanding.

- Introduction of a Student Success Coordinator to help monitor hallways, restrooms, lunch room and to check-in with students, etc.
